Today I am feeling a little inspired, a little fired up and a little like shaking you from your daily slumber. Firstly, I am completely inspired and in awe of a couple of my coaching clients who (without too much experience or knowledge) are just completely barging their way to success. Nothing or no-one is going to stand in there way of running the business that they desire – so that is rocking my week.
To add to that, I am feeling a little fired up after having my own butt kicked. Earlier in the week I found myself in position where no matter which way I looked I was confronted with obstacles. Now normally, this wouldn’t worry me and in fact I would cherish the challenge but for some reason I found myself looking for excuses not solutions (yeah, bring out the violins right). Now it is bloody lucky that I have such a great support crew (thanks N and V) to slap me around the face a little.
With those two things happening around me this week, it made me think about all the trainers out there who don’t have the face-slappers, the motivation or ability to overcome their obstacles to get what they want. So if you feel like you are just cruising through life, not living up to your full potential and you want to take on more challenges, here are my six steps to hardening up and making shit happen:
Step 1: Work out how bad you want it…
Is this a life-long dream, a passing phase or just something that seemed like a good idea at the time? Really think about how much you want to do what you are doing because if your REALLY want it, you are going to go through some stuff to get it.
Step 2: Make sure you leave the blame and excuses at the door…
Remember that you are responsible for everything that happens in your business. If a client leaves, you need to find out why and try to stop it in the future – not just blame the client for leaving. What can you be doing better? is a questions that you should ask yourself on a regular basis.
Step 3: Set a plan…
Whatever you are doing, do it with purpose. Set your goals and work out a plan to achieve those goals. It doesn’t have to be extensive, just a basic plan that you can implement, test and refine. If you don’t know how to do this there are plenty of resource’s and people that can help you.
Step 4: Act on it…
Be on a mission and don’t let anyone get in your way. Yeah, you may be just starting or you may be doing something new for the first time but your not alone. Everyone started somewhere and with every action you get more and more experience until all of sudden you are……experienced (weird hey?).
One other thing – there is always going to someone who doesn’t think you can do it. Screw them….
Step 5: Look your obstacles in the eye…
No matter how good you are at something, there are going to be obstacles along the way. Leave your ego at the door, calmly sit down are stare them directly in the eye. Take out emotion and associated stress and just work out a measured plan on how to overcome your obstacles.
Step 6: Get back on the horse…
Action, action, action. If something doesn’t work – do it another way. If a business alliance doesn’t come off – find another one. You be in control of your game by just laying down disciplined, consistent actions. Work out what is the best way to spend you time and commit to it. Sulking is for kids – action rules.
Remember that we live in a world of cause and effect. Every action we make has a consequence so stop looking to others for the answer and start looking in the mirror. Accountability is an often over-used word but sometimes it really fits.
Oh and if you REALLY want something, it is now time to harden up and go and get it!
